Rebelle takes over Scandinavian competitor "The 2nd Edit"

Online platform boosts position in Europe - enters Scandinavian luxury vintage fashion sector

All business by “The 2nd Edit” will from now on be conducted under the brand name Rebelle, according to a press release Monday (June 4, 2018). The takeover is the next step in the Hamburg-based company’s international growth strategy. “The Scandinavian secondhand market is growing steadily at the moment. ‘The 2nd Edit’ is outstandingly suited to further expanding our position in the region,” said Cécile Wickmann, CEO and founder of Rebelle – StyleRemains GmbH.

“Ware gaining not only a strong new client base with ‘The 2nd Edit’, but also a new range of exclusive designer treasures. We are looking forward to expanding our portfolio with many special items from Scandinavian brands such as Ganni, Acne and Baum und Pferdgarten, which are in high demand in other European countries as well,” Wickmann added.

Nordic market leader

Founded by Danish entrepreneur Christian Tost in 2015, “The 2nd Edit” is the leading Nordic market place for vintage designer fashion. “By integrating our platform into Rebelle, our customers will profit from an even broader product palette and a considerably greater range. We aim to offer the best service to Scandinavian buyers and sellers of secondhand luxury goods. We see the merger with Rebelle as a huge opportunity. Our customers will immediately be able to access a considerably larger selection of products from international luxury brands such as Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton,” said Tost, CEO of “The 2nd Edit”.

Steady international growth since launch has been linking buyers and sellers of vintage luxury fashion through its online market place since 2013. Rebelle, which currently employs a staff of 110 in Germany, Britain, the Netherlands and Italy, will continue to focus on internationalizing in attractive European markets following the integration of “The 2nd Edit”. Around 60 per cent of the company’s transactions are now outside Germany, with a customer base in 29 countries.

The website hosts more than 100,000 selected designer items from brands such as Hermès, Chanel and Louis Vuitton for over 1 million visitors per month. An in-house team of experts examines each individual designer item for authenticity and quality, guaranteeing buyers a secure shopping experience. In addition, Rebelle offers sellers an all-inclusive service: from creating professional text and image material to storage, packaging, dispatch and handling payment, Rebelle takes care of the entire sales process.

Last autumn, Rebelle secured a fresh cash injection amounting to several million euros under the leadership of Danish investor Friheden Invest A/S. Along with North East Ventures, the fund of the Pandora family from Copenhagen, Rebelle now owns two well-known Scandinavian partners and has a strong network in Nordic markets.
