The German Foundation scene met on 21-23 May 2014 at the the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH) in Germany. Hosted unter the motto “German Foundations: in the middle of the river and against the current”, the conference focused on the role and actions of foundations at different levels and in different working areas. The largest Foundation conference in Europe was attended by some 2,000 decision-makers from civil authorities, politics, economy, and culture who More than 2,000 participants were able to choose from over 80 workshops, talks, networking meetings, and other events
In his opening speech held at Deutsches Schauspielhaus on May 21, Federal President Joachim Gauck emphasised the role of foundations as drivers of innovation, conveners, enablers and reliable partners of change. Another highlight of the three day event was annual prize-giving ceremony. On May 23, the co-founder of SAP, benefactor and patron Dietmar Hopp was honoured with the Deutscher Stifterpreis 2014. The award is one the most important distinctions for foundation-related activities in Europe and is bestowed by the Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen (Association of German Foundations) for exemplary achievements in the context of foundation work.
