A “Memorandum of Understanding” on closer economic ties between the Chinese city of Hangzhou and Hamburg was sealed Tuesday by Tobias Bergmann, President of Hamburg’s Chamber of Commerce, XIE Shuangcheng, Deputy Mayor of Hangzhou, and WANG Gouzhen, President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Hangzhou Committee. Bergmann noted: “Hangzhou is a global leader of digitalisation. We are delighted that this dynamic city has proposed closer co-operation to our Chamber of Commerce.”
Importance of “Silicon Dragon” for Hamburg
Excellent starting-points in ecommerce, communication technology and start-ups hold great business opportunities for firms in Hamburg, according to Bergmann. “What happens in China today in terms of digitalisation will be hugely important for the European market tomorrow.“ Many big internet companies are based in Hangzhou, which is hailed as a “Silicon Dragon”. During his trip, Bergmann also visited West Lake Batteries to learn about e-mobility opportunities for Hamburg. The company operates 1,800 electric buses and the corresponding infrastructure in the Chinese city.
