A total of 32 SMEs were honoured for their family-friendly personnel policy with the Hamburg Family Seal on Monday (November 19, 2018). Around 372 companies have already passed the certification procedure by the Hamburg Alliance for Families, an initiative of the Hamburg Senate, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the Hamburg Chamber of Crafts.
Reconciling work and family life
Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Labour, Social Affairs, Family and Integration, said: “The need for skilled workers is one of the most pressing issues for many industries in the future. If you wish to retain or recruit employees, you have to keep an eye on family issues. Unconventional and flexible solutions are sometimes called for. Those who receive the ‘Hamburg Family Seal’ are particularly committed to reconciling family and career. Applicants can rely on this. The family seal is a great help to SMEs when recruiting skilled workers because questions of compatibility are an increasingly important argument for joining a company, especially for young people”.
Von flexiblen Arbeitszeiten bis hin zu Jobsharing-Modellen
Since 2007, the Hamburg Allianz for Families, an initiative of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Crafts, has presented the Hamburg Family Seal as a mark of quality for family-friendly personnel policies in SMEs. The measures can range from flexible working hours and individual part-time models to contact and re-entry programmes during and after parental leave and job-sharing models (also at management level). The aim of the Hamburg Alliance for Families is to help shape a family-friendly city and to include all those who bear responsibility towards society.
