HOCHBAHN Chief Technology Officer Jens-Günter Lang set up a tight schedule for the construction of the new U4 station Elbbrücken. Due to start this weeks, there will be only 14 months left for the finishing all works on the building, the shell of the basement and the steel bridges. Then, works on the actual stop are to follow. The opening of the new station is planned for 2018.
Designed By Local Architects
The new U4 station was designed by the “Hamburg architects gmp”: http: //www.gmp-architekten.de. In addition to designing the new airport and Berlin’s central station, Meinhard von Gerkan and Volkwin Marg have also drawn up a first draft for the Summer Olympics 2014 that may be held right in the heart of the Port of Hamburg. Max Bögl Group has been entrusted with works on the shell and the construction of steel bridges.
In total, some 13,000 cubic meters of concrete will be needed for the construction of the new station. In particular, the implementation of the 40 metres long steel bridges are a challenge. It is also important to coordinate work with simultaneous constructions at Zweibrückenstraße and Freihafenelbbrücke. HOCHBAHN estimates the investment at 180 million euro, which include both a parking area and the future expansion of stop at the Elbe bridges.
