Regional tourism in the district of Stade gained 1 per cent in terms of overnight accommodation figures in 2015 over the previous year, according to Landkreis Stade/Elbe e.V., meaning the region is still on a steady course after cracking the 400,000 mark in 2010. Vast parts of the district south of the Elbe form the attractive cultural landscape of Alte Land.

The holiday region had 423,164 overnight stays in 2015 compared to 419,439 in 2014, according to overnight accommodation figures by the Niedersachsen Institute for Statistics and Communication Technology (LSKN). The April to October period was strongest with figures hitting a high of 51,700 overnight stays in May (a gain of 3 per cent over the previous year). Tourists spent 2.3 nights on average in the region.
The ten-year development shows above average overnight stays and a higher than average share of foreign guests. The tourism association is presently working on a new concept for the holiday region with BTE consultancy and regional tourist professionals.
