Nordantech and Qualitize win tickets to SXSW

Six start-ups among finalists for tickets to world's largest creative get-together

The Hamburg-based Nordantech and Qualitize start-ups are heading to the upcoming South by Southwest digital and creative festival in Austin, Texas after beating four other finalists Monday (January 29, 2018) in betahaus. Their win includes tickets, flights and accommodation in Texas during the 31st SXSW underway from March 9-18, 2018. Hamburg Startups, co-founded by Sina Gritzuhn and Sanja Stankovic, have promoted entries by Hamburg’s fledgling start-ups for SXSW since 2013.

60-second pitches and “Austin Stress Test”

During the warm-up, emphasis was on tips and tricks for making the most of SXSW. But during Monday’s elevator pitch, the emphasis quickly turned to presentation skills. Each contestant had a mere 60 seconds to convince the audience of their business idea. Then, each finalist was subjected to the “Austin Stress Test”, which basically examined their reaction in a talk and during funny but tough situations. Clever, quick-witted responses were in demand as well as being able to amuse the audience. All the pitches were conducted in English to simulate conditions at SXSW. There, the winning start-ups represent not only Hamburg but also the start-up scene and were chosen by the audience. Hamburg-based start-ups across all sectors with a market-ready product as well as initial success were eligible to apply for Monday’s Hamburg Startups Mixer – SXSW Edition in betahaus.

Innovative market research and intelligent project management prove winners

Qualitize, founded by Kathrin and André Kistner, won the first ticket to Austin. Their company has turned customer surveys digital using touchpad terminals in retail, doctors’ practices and banks. The results are used to improved structures and their idea won the Hamburger Gründerpreis in 2015. The second ticket went to Nordantech. Founded by Dr. Jonas Steeger, Arne Brenneisen and Christian Kuhs, the company develops the web-based Falcon project management tool for large B2B projects. Nordantech’s intelligent software also learns as the project proceeds and the company now counts consultancies among the clients.

Strong partners

The four other finalists were AdTriba, Cherrydeck, Leankoala and miraminds. SXSW is a considered a launching pad for start-ups who wish to go international. During the festival, Hamburg Startups is supported by Hamburg Invest, Deutsche Bank, Sutor Bank and Vast Forward remote agency.
