TÜV SÜD turning site in Hamburg into centre for wind energy

Testing and certification service provider moves into offices in south of city. Site has great traffic connections and proximity to coastal wind turbines

TÜV SÜD is turning the Hamburg site into a centre for wind energy. The international testing and certification service provider has had an offshore wind energy department in the district of Hammerbrook since 2010. The expanded team in Hamburg will offer comprehensive services for wind turbines and onshore projects.

Testing wind turbines, service lift and hoists

At the opening of the offices in City Süd, Ferdinand Neuwieser, spokesman for management of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH, said: “The move here in Hamburg means that we are creating not only conditions for further growth in this location, but is also clear acknowledgement of Hamburg’s importance as a European capital in the wind sector.”

Commenting on the expansion Dr. Martin Webhofer, Manager of the TÜV SÜD Industrie Service wind energy division, said: “We will expand the existing team of around 20 offshore specialist by another expert for type certification of wind turbines, technical due diligence and for testing wind turbines, service lift and hoists.”

Certification of three offshore wind farms on German North Sea coast

“In Hamburg’s City Süd, we are optimally connected and can easily reach customers and partners in the region as well as the many wind turbines on and off the coast,” said Alexander Heitmann, head of the new wind energy site. As equipment, parts and components are tested during planning and construction, the proximity to port, railway station and motorway reduces the reaction periods. At present, TÜV SÜD is working on the certification of three offshore wind farms on the German North Sea coast.
