Siemens Wind Power has received an order for 16 SWT-3.6-130 and an SWT-3.0-108 for the onshore Uljin project in the South Korean province of Gyeongsangbuk from K D&D Co. Ltd., Siemens announced Friday (December 16). Siemens Wind Energy will also carry out maintenance on the plant for a ten-year period.
Plant for medium wind speeds
Thomas Richterich, CEO Onshore at Siemens Wind Power: “We are proud to have been chosen by SK D&D as partner of this second project in South Korea.” In 2014, SK D&D und Siemens Wind Power began operating the 30 MW Gasiri wind plant in the province of Jeju-do. The mountainous terrain near the coast in the province of Gyeongsangbuk requires two different wind energy plants and four different tower heights. Sixteen SWT-3.6-130 have also been selected. The IEC II plant has been developed especially for medium wind speeds and reaches 3.6 MW with a rotor diameter of 130 metres. The plant will be set up in spring 2018 and go into operation by the late summer. It will supply 35,000 households with clean electricity.
Hamburg as a centre of wind energy
Nordex, Senvion and Siemens are among the wind energy giants based in Hamburg where many producers focus on sales and management, according to the Cluster Renewable Energy. Six other international wind turbine producers have branches in Hamburg. The EWEA Annual Event has been held in Hamburg since 2014, underlining the city’s position as a wind powerhouse with two international mega-events.
