The North German Energy Transition NEW 4.0 launched Wednesday under the theme “Time for Change” to supply Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein with only renewable energy by 2035. The poster campaign is part of several measures to raise acceptance and transparency among the public. The German Ministry for Economic Affairs and 60 partners in commerce, science are funding the four-year project to achieve technical innovations, new market platforms and greater public acceptance of these objectives.
“Acceptance among citizens is the crux of the energy transition. Therefore, the most modern means of communication will be used to bring NEW 4.0 far into every region by 2020, which ultimately has advantages for companies and private persons,” said Prof. Dr. Werner Beba, Co-ordinator of NEW 4.0.
Hands-on energy transition
A road show will get underway in late 2017 in north Germany and stop in around 60 places in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg by 2020. “We will present the energy transition in a hands-on manner,” Beba added. Three surveys will be conducted to research public attitudes and factors that would raise acceptance of the energy transition. The first results are expected in autumn.
