Ubilabs, a specialist in interactive maps, and Hamburg’s Miniatur Wunderland, the site of the world’s largest model railroad, have won the New Yorker Webby People’s Voice Award in the “Advertising & Media/Tourism & Leisure” category for integrating the Google Street View Trek in the project. That puts Ubilabs and Miniature Wunderland in good company alongside winners such as the streaming series, House of Cards, First Lady Michelle Obama, The New York Times, actor Jessica Alba, Google and Spotify music streaming service. The award ceremony will be held on May 17, 2016 in New York.
Miniatur Wunderland on a scale of 1:87
In early 2016, Ubilabs, Google Deutschland and Miniatur Wunderland made headlines with their #MiniView project. Hamburg News reported earlier on the unique, new Google Street View Trek in Miniatur Wunderland where visitors can marvel at this miniature realm built to a scale of 1:87. The model railroad stretches over an area measuring 1,300 square metres and 930 trains whizz across a network of tracks spanning more than 13 kilometres. Exceptionally detailed scenes feature some 230,000 miniature figures. Ubilabs built a new camera system that fits onto a tiny train to capture these images.
Webby Award & Webby People’s Voice Award
The Webby Award is an award for excellence on the internet and is presented annually by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) in five categories: online media including web pages, online advertising, online movies and videos, mobile web pages and apps and social media. Founded in 1998 in New York City, the award promotes creative, technical and professional advances on the internet.
The Webby Award and a Webby People’s Voice Award are presented in each of the five categories. The 1,000 members of IADAS nominate the finalists and choose a winner of the coveted Webby Awards. The winners of the Webby People’s Voice Award are elected in an open, online vote in which several million users take part every year, according to the organisers.
