Sony Pictures, the producers of VOX TV’s “The Lion’s Den” show, are hosting an “Open Pitch” for the show next Tuesday (November 22, 2016) in Hamburg’s Mindspace. It is not yet clear whether open castings will be held in other German cities as well. Young entrepreneurs can now apply for the fourth season of the show.
Applications for pitch day
From 9 am to 6 pm, young start-ups have three minutes maximum to pitch their ideas and products. The pitches will be filmed and used for the selection process. A decision on TV appearances will not be reached during the November casting. Products and visual aids can be used during the pitch, which will not focus on the business plan. Applicants have until Wednesday (November 16, 2016) to apply for a time slot on the pitch day. However, founders can also attend the event without prior registration. The TV judges will not be attending the open pitch.
Rewarding appearance even without a deal
Several Hamburg-based start-ups have already proved successful on the TV show. Stefan and Anne Lemcke, who founded Ankerkraut based in Jesteburg near Hamburg, Sibilla Kawala-Bulas, founder of Limberry, a start-up offering designer costume fashion, as well as Lennart Rieper, Florian Goecke and Paul Dudda, founders of Towell+ came away with substantial investments. Yet even without an investment, an appearance on “The Lion’s Den” show can be worthwhile, as Annemarie Heyl, founder of Kale&Me, a start-up offering cold-pressed fitness drinks, told Hamburg News: “The show and after-effects proved a big win for us and we are being inundated with orders at present.”
