Senate launches new award for gender equality in digital sector

High hopes for Innovation in Digital Equality Award (IDEA)

The senate has launched the Innovation in Digital Equality Award (IDEA) to promote gender equality in the digital sector. This comes after the Global Gender Gap Report 2018, issued by the World Economic Forum, found that women account for only 16 per cent of computer programmers, professors and data analysts in Germany. Start-ups, individuals, clubs and companies now have until September 1, 2019 to submit their entries for the award.

Digitisation as an opportunity for equal rights

Commenting on the award, Katharina Fegebank, Senator for Equality, said digitisation offers an opportunity and noted: “We can redesign our co-operation and ensure that equality is taken into consideration from the outset. The IDEA Prize is an excellent opportunity to honour and promote new ideas in the digital sector and to raise the visibility of successful women’s achievements in the digital and technology sectors.”

Technical innovations and commitment are sought

The advancement award will honour technical innovations or innovative concepts, which digitally transfer equality-orientated analog solutions or promote equality digitally. The honorary award will be presented for women’s outstanding achievements towards equality in the digital world.
