Great atmosphere at latest slam

Cork surfboards, Icelandic dog food and organic, cotton tampons - founders stir up audience

Several hundred enthusiastic guests gathered Thursday (August 23, 2018) at mindspace Hamburg to watch six start-ups pitch their business models at the eighth Startupslam. Each team had six minutes to present their company. A jury had another six minutes to answer questions. Eventually, the strength of the applause decided the winner – namely Mylily – a Hamburg-based start-up that sells tampons made entirely of organic cotton.

Messenger for doctors and fast software solutions

Second place went to with their messenger Kanon Health. This enables patients to contact medical practices and doctors as well as to exchange documents. Patients save time and medical institutions money. Third place went to ViperDev. The developer start-up aims to help customers find suitable software solutions quickly and to avoid unnecessary waits and feedback loops.

Cork surfboards, healthy snacks and sugar-free treats

The audience were also enthusiastic about three other start-ups. Hardcork has patented its innovation – cork mixed with cotton fibres. Surfboards and skateboards can be made from the material without petrochemicals. The three founders of Tales&Tails offer dog food and treats without sugar, grain and preservatives. The fish for their products is caught and processed in Iceland. Bemooky offers healthier and vegan snacks for the office with its Bemooky box. The purchase of a box also supports social projects.


Everything lasts 12 minutes at and includes 12-minute lectures, 12-minute discussions, and 12 minutes of networking. is a non-profit registered association and has been organising after work networking since 2014 with lectures on interesting and current topics. The association aims to promote education and science. The format was developed in Hamburg and is now held in over 20 cities worldwide. More than 1,000 speakers have taken to a stage during at 400 events.
