Expansion of free Wi-Fi in Hamburg gains pace

Hamburg, and Haspa to expand free public MobyKlick Wi-Fi network

All 130 branches of Haspa as well as the administration buildings and customer centres will be integrated into the free MobyKlick network in a year with so-called access points, Juergen Marquardt, a member of the Hamburger Sparkasse (Haspa) board, and Bernd Thielk, Managing Director of the network, announced Tuesday (September 11, 2018). Anyone within a radius of up to 200 meters of the buildings can then use fast and free internet. The announcement is a major step towards expanding free Wi-Fi in Hamburg.

Expansion to increase Hamburg’s attractiveness has set up over 1,000 MobyKlick public access points in e.g. on Rathausmarkt, Jungfernstieg, HafenCity, and in shopping centres, bookshops and in HVV buses in the past two years. “The free, open Wi-Fi increases Hamburg’s attractiveness and makes mobile services accessible to everyone,” said Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator of Culture and Media.
