Cargonexx was awarded Monday (September 10, 2018) the 17th Hamburg Gründpreis for founders in the Fischauktionshalle in Altona. Around 750 guests from business, politics and society attended the ceremony during which Rolf-Dieter Lafrenz, CEO of Cargonexx, accepted the award in “start-up” category. The logistics company acts as a digital freight forwarder and uses intelligent algorithms to reduce empty lorry journeys.
Digital freight forwarder matches cargo with free capacities
The multiple award-winning, fledgling company, scooped the European Startup Prize for Mobility in February 2018. Founded in 2016 by Lafrenz, Cargonexx uses artificial intelligence to usher in a new era in transport – “one-click trucking”. To this end, the team has developed self-learning algorithms that determine spot market prices for truck journeys that are automatically distributed among free carrier capacities. The intelligent matching of cargo to free capacities should ensure significantly fewer empty runs and reduce the volume of traffic. Cargonexx acts as a liable forwarder and is entirely responsible for the transport.
Initiative, courage and success honoured
The Hamburger Gründerpreis is awarded annually by the Hamburger Sparkasse, the Hamburger Abendblatt, Hamburg1 Fernsehen, the Chamber of Commerce and Crafts as well as Studio Hamburg and the Fischauktionshalle. The award recognizes entrepreneurial initiative, courage and success in the metropolitan region. A total of three prizes are presented in the categories “Start-ups”, “Ascenders” and “Lifetime Achievement” with applications only possible in the first category.
Cargonexx is set to compete with other four other start-ups in the Final of the Startups@Reeperbahn Pitch 2018 September 19 to secure a ticket to the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas and a media budget of EUR 150,000 from the WELT daily.
