Ministry of Culture to provide funding for Hamburg's music labels

24 January 2023
Small labels' applications accepted until deadline of March 1

Small music labels in Hamburg now have until the deadline of March 1, 2023 to apply for grants from the Ministry of Culture and Media, a press release said Tuesday (January 17, 2023).  A panel of music industry experts will advise the ministry on the recipients. The  funding backs artistic projects for which no financial resources would otherwise be available. Applications for funding can be submitted online.

Improved conditions for musicians

"The releases by predominantly smaller labels contribute to the diversity of Hamburg as a city of music and thus offer musicians an important platform for experiencing their art," said Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media. "For years, Hamburg's label funding has successfully strengthened these structures to create good framework conditions for the artists' work." The ministry now wants to give the label operators more planning security when preparing their music releases.

Funding guidelines

The current funding guidelines remain in effect until June 30, 2023. Another funding round is planned for the second half of 2023 after a revision of the current funding criteria.
