"Innovations made in Hamburg - powered by DESY"

Commenting at the award ceremony in July, Norbert Aust, President of the Chamber of Commerce, said: "DESY stands for world-class research and has a considerable influence on the competitiveness and innovative strength of the business location in future. It paves the way for innovations and improved technologies in the economy by advancing deep-tech technologies in the 'Startup Labs Bahrenfeld' and the use of X-ray light. We hope for many 'Innovations made in Hamburg - powered by DESY' in future."

Strengthening Hamburg as centre of commerce and science

"The 'Hamburg 2040' award is a great incentive to continue on our path to link up science and industry even better," said Helmut Dosch, Chairman of the DESY Board of Directors. Established in 2020, the annual award is part of the Chamber of Commerce's "Hamburg 2040" strategy to shape the future of the city. Companies and institutions are honoured for groundbreaking innovations and their transfer to the economy. The world's largest X-ray laser XFEL, which went into operation in 2017, is opening up all kinds of new research approaches in nanotechnology and materials management.
