DESY welcome 115 summer students at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen this year. The young researchers from 28 countries will be able to gain a close and practical insight into the research at Germany’s largest accelerator centre for eight weeks. Thus, DESY is offering one of the largest and most international summer schools in Germany.
A Leading International Summer School in Germany
The 98 summer students researching in Hamburg come from 25 countries. In Zeuthen, 17 young people from ten countries, are currently working. This international mix makes the DESY Summer Student Programme extremely popular among young people, who will not be stuck in theory, but enjoy hands-on experiences in real research projects. The students will be integrated in DESY’s research groups in particle and astroparticle physics, accelerator physics and photon science and experience everyday science first hand. A series of lectures supplements the practical experience with theoretical background.
“In addition to the scientific work, the networking among students is also of great importance for us in the summer programme. Each year, the diversity of nationalities creates a very special atmosphere”, says co-organiser Olaf Behnke from Hamburg.
