Elbphilharmonie presents concert season 2023/24

Classical music, jazz and new music await fans from September 5, 2023

Music lovers can look forward to the Elbphilharmonie's 2023/2024 concert season which launches on September 5, 2023. World-famous orchestras and ensembles, classical music, jazz, and both new music and electronic music will take to the concert hall's stages. Subscriptions are available for various concert series and special events in both the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle. Tickets go on sale from June 6.

Verdi, Boston Symphony Orchestra and "Reflektor" festivals

Following on directly from Elbphilharmonie Summer, the new season opens with the Milan Scala conducted by Riccardo Chailly on September 5. Two concerts by the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andris Nelsons follow on September 6 and two by François-Xavier Roth and his original-sound orchestra Les Siècles on September 26 and 27. The Bavarian State Orchestra is expected in Hamburg to perform "An Alpine Symphony" celebrating its 500th anniversary. Other highlights include the "Reflektor" festivals, curated by different artists. The U.S. jazz guitarist Bill Frisell will be appearing as an improvising chamber musician in small line-ups on November 25 and 26. Later, the multi-talented André Heller will perform his ANIMA project from March 16-23, 2024 based on a fantastic garden created by the musician outside Marrakech. The German premiere of "Fin de partie," the only opera by György Kurtág will be staged on October 14, a historically informed "Carmen" with René Jacobs, and Bernd Alois Zimmermann's monumental century-old work "Die Soldaten". Fans of operettas can look forward to Offenbach's "Orpheus in the Underworld" on New Year's Eve. 

Jazz, electro, new music and Kurdish culture in Elbphilharmonie

The KURDISTAN Festival  underway from November 17-19, 2023 celebrates the wealth of Kurdish music and welcomes Aynur, the brightest star of Kurdish singing. Other guests include the leading Iranian-Kurdish spike-violin virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor and Danûk, a Syrian-Kurdish ensemble whose members fled the war in Syria. The Elbphilharmonie debut of Esperanza Spalding, as part of an all-star tribute concert featuring the orchestral music of the recently deceased saxophone legend Wayne Shorter on November 14, promises to be a special highlight. Beyond the world of jazz, the Elbphilharmonie welcomes illustrious figures such as Elvis Costello on September 19 and Caetano Veloso on October 4. New music will take centre stage on March 15, 2024 with a selection of compositions by the Italian post-war composer Luigi Nono. Electronic music artists including Nala Sinephro,  will perform atmospheric ambient jazz on the harp on April 17. Meanwhile, the "ePhil" series will showcase the Colombian artist Lucrecia Dalt on September 28. The Berlin-based JakoJako, who is currently a resident DJ at Berghain, brings a club feel to the Kaistudio on April 5, 2024. 

Young musicians, music festival and music education

The "Fast Lane" concert series focuses on promising young musicians on the threshold of an international career, such as pianist Mao Fujita, the jazz musician and double Grammy award winner Samara Joy and band on November 11, 2023. Alan Gilbert and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra open the International Music Festival under the motto of "War and Peace" from April 26-27, 2024. Music education is high on the agenda in the upcoming season with over 1,000 events including several workshops. A new mobile workshop called  "Elbphilharmonie Soundtracker" will stop off at schools to bring musicians together with young people in suburbs all over Hamburg.
