The 40th Reisen Hamburg ended Sunday (February 12th) on a positive note for both visitors and exhibitors. Around 71,000 north Germans compared to 76,000 visitors in 2016 viewed the offers of some 850 exhibitors for cruises, caravanning and cycling holidays. Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH, said: “The mood was very good. Many exhibitors spoke about intense talks with well prepared visitors and many bookings as well as deals.” Kerstin Horny, Manager of Thomas Cook travel agency’s stand, said: “We had many bookings for 2018 during the fair.”
Great interest in Elbphilharmonie
Freddy Hipp, Manager of Wigwam Reisen’s stand, spoke of many successes and pointed out: “There were several bookings for trips worth EUR 10,000.” Exhibitors such as Knaus Tabbert were also pleased with the large caravanning sector. Paul Geominy, Head of Sales, said: “We increased our sales during the fair by around 50 per cent over last year.“ Katharina Klanck of Hamburg Tourismus GmbH, noted: “We had very positive feedback about the information that we provided. Our stand was twice as big for the first time. The Elbphilhalmornie theme took up plenty of space and was very well liked by visitors. We had many requests for information about guided tours of the building and of course tickets.“
Rising share of undecided
Some 89 per cent of visitors are planning a trip this year over 90 per cent in 2016. However, a survey conducted by an independent market researcher found a rising share or 53 per cent, who have not yet decided on a trip or destination compared to 48 per cent in 2016. City trips are particularly popular at 60 per cent followed by active holidays i.e. hiking or cycling, beach life and sea bathing holidays (31 per cent), cruises (27 per cent), camping holidays (29 per cent) as well as adventure holidays and safaris (25 per cent).
Four simultaneous fairs in 2018
Next year, four special fairs namely Rad Hamburg, Caravanning Hamburg, Kreuzfahrtwelt Hamburg and Reisen Hamburg will be combined and held parallel as the first “Ooh! – The Leisure Worlds of Hamburg Fair (“ooh! -Die FreizeitWelt der Hamburg Messe) from February 7-11, 2017.
