The private initiative Hamburg Startups and StartupSpot are hosting the Food Innovation Camp 2019 on Monday (May 20, 2019) in the Chamber of Commerce. Around 80 exhibitors will present their products in the food expo, which also features the first non-food area. Start-ups with alternative packaging and sustainable cosmetics will be on hand in a new beauty lounge.
Conference on logistics
The agenda includes panel discussions and talks on food topics as well as matchmaking events. The focus will also be on logistical challenges for the food industry, the role of technology and AI or blockchain. Another highlight will be the presentation of the 2019 Food Award for best newcomer and best product.
Around 31 start-ups including Spoontainable will pitch their innovations on stage, The Stuttgart-based start-up has developed an edible ice cream spoon from cocoa shell fibres to fight plastic waste. As sustainable packaging gains importance for the food industry, successful Hamburg-based start-ups such as Purefood are seeking to tap social interest by providing sustainable snacks under its Lycka label.
Hamburg’s food start-ups
Around 102 start-ups Hamburg have culinary business ideas, according to the Hamburg Startup Monitor. These include the ice cream manufacturer Luicella’s, the spice start-up Ankerkraut or juices by Kale&Me.
