Danish Design Weeks at stilwerk Hamburg

In 2014, Altona celebrates the 350-year anniversary of its town charter. To mark the jubilee of the former Danish city, its "stilwerk" will host an exhibition on Danish design.

On August 23, 1664, the Danish king Frederick III. had granted these rights to the then second-largest city of its kingsdom. For 200 years, Altona remained Danish rule. Reason enough for the design centre stilwerk to showcase Danish design in its revitalised heritage buildling on the banks of the Elbe river. From 4 to 31 August, you will be able to explore Danish design classics and new designs in exceptionally stylish settings

Big names and new talents

On show are renowned as well as young Danish interior brands such as Fritz Hansen, Louis Poulsen, Carl Hansen, Normann Copenhagen, Gubi, Hay, &tradition, Montana. A true premiere: for the first time, fabrics manufacturer Kvadrat will present parts of its Hallingdal 65 art project in Germany. Also featured will be the famous egg chair by Arne Jacobsen, exhibited with a gold shiny leather cover unique in the world. The chair is also displayed in an exclusive fabric-creation by fashion designer Raf Simons.

Day of action on 23 August

While the presentation will be centred in the foyer, further displays will be featured throughout the entire centre. The historic jubilee on 23 August will be celebrated with an action-packed day of events, held simultaneously to the city jubilee and the international festival of street arts “Stamp” at Große Bergstraße.
