Five north German states on show at France's leading hydrogen trade fair

HY-5 is gearing up to present Hamburg as the hub of Germany’s hydrogen sector with projects including a hydrogen terminal, a large-scale electrolyser and a hydrogen industrial network in the Port of Hamburg at the leading Hyvolution underway in Paris from Wednesday (February 1-2, 2023). The HY-5 initiative hopes to bundle the existing forces in north Germany and to establish a hydrogen economic sector along the entire value chain from products to uses.

HY-5 stand

Experts from the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Bremen and Hamburg will showcase their plans and the largest hydrogen projects at a stand dedicated to northern Germany. Representatives of Hamburg Invest will also be on hand to offer information. Emphasis is on possible co-operations and investments. Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG will present various projects to achieve its climate-neutral logistics. The company recently announced the construction of a hydrogen filling station in the port.

Path to green hydrogen sector

North Germany offers all the prerequisites for setting up a green hydrogen sector, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Several major projects are being initiated to achieve a climate-neutral energy supply. Central to these are the construction of the Green Hydrogen Hub electrolyser in Moorburg and the HH-WIN hydrogen industrial network. Hydrogen will be imported simultaneously via a terminal in the port to supply various companies there with green energy. The HY-5 hydrogen hopes to strengthen and expand national and international collaborations on developing a hydrogen economic sector in north Germany.
