Five Hamburg-based game studios at Gamescom 2023
Gamecity Hamburg is bringing five independent games developers to the Gamescom 2023 underway in Cologne from August 23-27. The backing is part of its "Road to Gamecom" scheme. The newcomers will be presented at the joint Indie Arena Booth in Hall 10.2. More than 550 exhibitors from over 27 countries are expected to present their novelties at the leading trade fair for computer and video games. The following is an overview of the Hanseatic companies attending the fair.
Cannons and plastic toy monsters
A small cannon hatches from an egg and sets off on an adventure through a forest to a dark fortress. Along the way, riddles must be solved, enemies defeated and forest dwellers helped. The team is now aiming to launch the "About Cannons + Sparrows" on the market after taking part in Gamecity Hamburg's Games Lift Incubator in 2022 and receiving prototyping support. Crumbling Games took part in the incubator in 2020 and also received prototype funding. Players in their virtual reality "Crumbling" game control the eponymous action figure who has to fight plastic toy monsters. The game will be released later this year.
Secret of Atlantis, a sci-fi adventure and an egg
In Light of Atlantis, a small robot must solve various puzzles underwater to unravel the mystery surrounding the legendary island of Atlantis. The players control the water - not the character. The game by a group of Master's students at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW) won the German Computer Game Prize for Best Prototype in 2023. The Symmetry Break Studio team are all former students from HAW. This team secured prototype funding for their sci-fi adventure "Misgiven" after taking part in the Games Lift Incubator. Meanwhile, the "Radioactive Dreams" team received prototype funding for their "Turbo Shell" game. Using a special push-pull technique, players guide the main character, Craig the egg, through various sci-fi levels.
