A fourth Airbus A320 production line has been inaugurated Thursday (June 14, 2018) in Hamburg-Finkenwerder. Digital technologies and a more flexible industrial organization will allow the facility to ramp-up the single-aisle programme to a production rate of 60 aircraft per month by mid 2019. Frank Horch, Senator for Economics, Transport and Innovation, and Thomas Jarzombek, German Government Co-ordinator for Aerospace, attended the opening ceremony with Guillaume Faury, President of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, and 500 guests.
Digital aircraft product
More than 14,000 A320ceo and A320neo aircraft ordered and over 8,100 delivered make the A320 the world’s most successful single-aisle aircraft family. The A320neo has secured nearly a 60 per cent market share with over 6,000 orders from 100 customers so far. During the celebrations, Faury remarked: “The inauguration of our latest, most modern A320 production line opens a new chapter in efficient, digital aircraft manufacturing. With these new technologies we are building our aircraft more efficiently, a key enabler for higher production rates.”
The A320 aircraft are manufactured globally at Airbus sites in Europe, China and the United States. Airbus also inaugurated a larger and modernised Hamburg A320 delivery centre with more customer areas, more efficient delivery processes and increased hospitality services.
