The member companies of the Chambers of Commerce (IHK) and the Chambers of Crafts (HWK) continue to estimate the business climate of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region as positive. This is the result of a survey conducted by the Initiative pro Metropolregion Hamburg e.V. (IMH) in autumn, with the Business Climate Indicator of CCI members recording only a hardly perceptible decline from 115 to 114.2 index points.
The positive outlook of the IHK member companies in regard of their future economic performance thus continues to remain positive. Approximately one quarter of the companies expect a positive change in the business performance, more than half of the companies expect their business to remain stable. In addition, companies plan more investments and recruitments, with 15.6 per cent of companies expecting a rise in staff figures. Personnel figures thus increased both in comparison to the previous quarter and last year’s quarter. Also on the rise are investments, with 10.3 per cent of companies expecting rather an increase than decrease in investments.
In crafts, the business climate index rose by two points to 129 index points compared to last year. 45 per cent of the enterprises in crafts evaluate their current business situation as “good”, another 47 per cent called it “satisfactory”. Only eight per cent assessed their business situation as “poor”. “Also in the autumn of 2015, the crafts have proven once again a reliable prop of the north German economy. The observed autumn revival gives grounds for optimism in regard to overall economy of the Hamburg metro region”, says Edgar Hummelsheim, cCEO Chamber of Crafts Schwerin.
Finishing Trade A Leader In Crafts
The crafts are optimistic about the future. 56 per cent of companies from trades and crafts expect a stable development, with 33 per cent even expecting an improvement in the business situation. The continuing high demand for construction and private consumption are the decisive impetus for the good performance of the trades and crafts in the Hamburg metro region. With 142 index points, the finishing trade tops the statistics in the business climate index, followed by the construction sector with 134 points. In all four sub-regions of the Hamburg metro region, the trades and crafts are unabated in their strong dynamics.
