Otto Group appoints first Chief Digital Officer

Sebastian Klauke, physicist, start-up and business consultant, becomes new CDO

The Otto Group has appointed Sebastian Klauke, 37, as Chief Digital Officer from July 1, 2017. This newly-created, executive position is part of the company’s efforts to push ahead with digitalisation. Klauke, who has already been hailed as a digitalisation expert, will report to Dr. Rainer Hillebrand, Vice Chairman of the Executive Board Otto Group, Corporate Strategy, E-Commerce Business Intelligence. The CDO will be responsible for pushing ahead with digital transformation and launching suitable business models.

Founder of online shop

Hillebrand stressed: “We are delighted to have gained Sebastian Klauke for this demanding task. His experience as a bridge builder between start-ups and corporate culture as well as his enthusiasm for technology have more than convinced us that we have chosen the right person for this key role in the Otto Group’s future, strategic direction.”

Klauke, a physicist, spent four years working as a consultant and project manager for Boston Consulting Group. In 2010, he set up the successful website – an online shop for used cars and later sold it to rival MeinAuto.

Digital strategy for trade sector

Since July 2014, Klauke has been a partner and manager of BCG Digital Ventures GmbH – a subsidiary of Boston Consulting Group. In reference to his new employer, Klauke said: “The Otto Group is one of the most innovative and forward-looking companies in the trade sector. I look forward to the challenge of developing the Otto Group’s digital strategy in a responsible position and to implementing the developments on the market.”
