Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg appointed Michael Westhagemann to the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg on Thursday (November 1, 2018). Westhagemann succeeds Frank Horch as President of the Ministry of Economics, Transport and Innovation, who has retired at his own request. Tschentscher presented the certificate of appointment after which Westhagemann was confirmed and sworn in by the Hamburg Parliament.
Honorary commitment to Hamburg
Westhagemann is independent and headed the Siemens branch in Hamburg and the company’s Northern Division until 2017. He was also responsible for the group’s wind energy division. Previously, Westhagemann worked for Siemens AG as a regional business manager with responsibility for the Mideast and Africa. Westhagemann has worked voluntarily for Hamburg in various capacities, including Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Managing Board of the Industry Association.
Focus on expansion and modernising transport systems
Tschentscher remarked: “Michael Westhagemann is an experienced manager who is well acquainted with companies’ requirements and is well networked in Hamburg. The senate has gained an extremely competent senator who has already made a name for himself in the future topics of business such as digitalisation and the energy revolution. He will consistently continue the expansion and modernisation of our transport systems”. Horch retired on October 31, 2018 at his own request.
