Hamburg to become European Partner City of the International Association of Professional Congress Organizers

As the first and only city in Europe, Hamburg is now a corporate partner of the International Association of Professional Congress Organizers (IAPCO)

The Hamburg Convention Bureau (HCB) and the IAPCO have sealed their membership agreement with an official presentation of certificates at the industry trade fair IMEX 2015. Membership started already on 1 May 2015.

Hamburg – a Quality Location for Conventions and Events

IAPCO is a non-profit association of professional congress organisers that represents organisers and managers of national and international congresses, conferences, meetings and other events across the globe. With the partnership agreement, the HCB aims to raise awareness of Hamburg as a destination and to present the Hamburg Metropolitan Region as a quality location for conventions and events. IAPCO provides the Hamburg Convention Bureau with access to its current portfolio of 117 professional congress organisers (PCOs) that meet the confederation’s high quality standards. Around 50 percent of IAPCO members are involved in global business, which will contribute to Hamburg’s international profile.

Two Hamburg Companies have already been IAPCO members

Hamburg is home to two companies that are IAPCO members – CPO HANSER SERVICE GmbH and INTERPLAN Congress, Meeting & Event Management AG – which confirms the high quality standards prevailing in Hamburg. With the new corporate partnership agreement, Hamburg as a location will be able to benefit from IAPCO’s professional networks.

Medium and Long-Term Value Creation

In 2013, IAPCO members recorded a total of approximately 3,329 corporate meetings, as well as 2,826 association meetings and 609 governmental meetings. With these events, the confederation attracted 2,718,797 participants in total. By making use of such an active network, Hamburg will be able to boost its prospects of advancing its international profile further. Moreover, Hamburg’s membership may result in potential medium and long-term value creation. This will not only strengthen the economy, but also anchor decision-makers, businesses and new talent in Hamburg.

Great Recognition of HCB’s Work

Andrea Weidinger, authorised representative and head of conventions at the HCB, comments on the partnership agreement: “We are delighted to have been able to seal a partnership agreement with one of the most prestigious organisations in the field of congress organising. The opportunity to collaborate with numerous well-known PCOs advances our work and also serves as an external signal, as it confirms that Hamburg as a destination fully complies to the high standards of IAPCO and its members.”

First Corporate Partnership with European Destination Management Organisation

Michel Neijmann, president of IAPCO, also welcomes the partnership agreement with Hamburg: “As part of its continuing efforts to increase the standard of service among its members and other sectors of the meetings industry, IAPCO is proud to commit to partnership agreements with key stakeholders from the international meetings industry. We are therefore very happy to announce our first corporate partnership with a European destination management organisation – the Hamburg Convention Bureau. We are delighted to have such an enthusiastic partner as the HCB and look forward to the exchange of experience and to combining our efforts in terms of client services, as well as mutual support for continuous progress.”

With the new partnership agreement, Hamburg is adding its name to the eminent list of selected international partner destinations such as Hong Kong, Dubai and Toronto.
