Beiersdorf AG celebrated Friday (March 29, 2019) the foundation-stone laying of its Beiersdorf Campus in Hamburg’s Troplowitzstrasse at a ceremony attended by Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg.
Future group headquarters
“Beiersdorf AG is building its headquarters of the future in Eimsbüttel and remaining true to the location where the group has had its home for more than 135 years,” said Tschentscher, adding, “The DAX company is sending an important signal that in addition to administration, production and development can also function well in an urban environment. Hamburg, as an attractive and diverse metropolis, offers its companies a clear locational advantage in attracting qualified specialists who are of great importance for their competitiveness.”
Investment at Beiersdorf’s home in Eimsbüttel
Stefan De Loecker, Chairman of the Beiersdorf Executive Board, stressed the importance of the project for the company: “Our entrepreneurial roots, which are particularly close to our hearts, are located here in the district. We are seizing the opportunity with our investment of EUR 250 million to consolidate group functions, which are currently spread across three locations. This will create state-of-the-art jobs for our employees.”
Room for growth and cross-functional cooperation
The campus offers space for around 3,000 ultra-modern office and laboratory workplaces in new and existing buildings. Employees in different functions are involved in the desing and planning process to meet the various needs. The concept also lends support to the new C.A.R.E.+ corporate strategy which foresees restructuring the consumer business segment, which accounted for more than 80 per cent of consolidated sales in 2018. In view of upheaval across the industry, Beiersdorf is also planning additional investments of up to EUR 70 to 80 million per annum in internationalization, innovation, digitization and employee training.
New corporate headquarters at centre of site
Apart from existing buildings such as the skin research centre opened in 2004, the new Beiersdorf Campus will include many new buildings. The heart of the 60,000 square metre site in Troplowitzstrasse will be the new group headquarters, which will be ready in 2021. Beiersdorf is the first company in Germany aiming for double certification of the new headquarters, in accordance with LEED – an internationally recognized seal of quality for sustainability in building planning, and the WELL standard.
