At this year’s MAPIC in Cannes, the largest retail property trade show in Europe, Hamburg-based ECE was honoured with two awards. The company received the “Best New Shopping Center” award for Milaneo shopping centre in Stuttgart, which was honored for its exceptional innovative customer services, marketing and architecture. The award for the “Best Retail Digital Strategy” was presented to the ECE Future Labs, which develop new digital and interactive services and test them in pilot projects for operation at ECE centers.
Ultimate Customer Service
The ECE Future Labs aim to identify innovative solutions which address the ever-changing needs of customers and which consider expanding digitization trends as well as state-of-the-art multichannel approaches. They focus specifically on the customer needs and touch points with regard to mobility, orientation, shopping experience, and convenience. These comprise services such as ticketless RFID parking, a center app for smartphones with a click & collect feature or 3D wayfinding systems which show the position of shops in a center for easy navigating.
Hamburg as Real Life Test Ground
As a unique feature in the industry, the Future Labs include three shopping centres that serve as “live” test areas for innovative ideas and services to receive immediate customer response. One of these three centres is the Alstertal-Einkaufszentrum in Hamburg. Also included as test grounds are Limbecker Platz in Essen, and Marmara Park in Istanbul.
Numerous roll-outs of various innovations demonstrate the importance and hands-on approach of the Future Labs.They include, for instance, a “Same-Day-Delivery” Service: visitors, who live within a radius of 15 kilometers of the centre, can have their shopping bags delivered to their homes by the evening of the same day. Furthermore, there is the „Love2Shop“ centre aApp which informs users about special offers of the stores, discounts, events, news and services at the center, free Wi-Fi, and a digital wayfinder.
The MAPIC Awards have been presented at the MAPIC retail property trade show since 1996. The trade fair is an important industry meeting for retailers, developers, and property owners. The awards honor outstanding, innovative, and creative solutions in the retail property industry, which are selected by a jury of experts.
