Dr. Michael Otto is Hamburg‘s 35th honorary citizen

70-year old patron is honoured with the highest award of the Hanseatic City

The Hamburg senate and parliament awarded the honorary citizenship to entrepreneur and donor Dr. Michael Otto in recognition of his outstanding achievements.

Born in Hamburg, Michael Otto lived up to his social responsibility to the big by supporting his home town in many areas, ranging from culture to eduction, environmental and social matters. aß gesamtgesellschaftliche In 2001, Dr. Otto thus initiated the project “Professional Orientation and Apprenticeship placement for 9th Grade Pupils“, which became a model for many similar initiatives in Germany.

Making culture accessible to all classes, is a truly heartfelt matter. “The Young ClassX“ project, realised by Otto Group in co-operation with the Salut Salon ensemble, invited children from underprivileged families to playfully discover classical music. Otto also financially supported Hamburg‘s State Music School, the hamburg museum, Hamburg‘s public art gallery, the future concert hall Elbphilharmonie along with other cultural institutions and projects.

Since 1993, the Michael Otto Foundation for Environmental Protection has been supporting numerous projects protecting and conserving the vital natural resource of water.
