Chinese Chamber of Commerce opens office in Hamburg

Hamburg has highest number of Chinese firms across Europe

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Germany has opened a representation in Hamburg. A delighted Professor Dr. Schmidt-Tenz, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Hamburg, noted: “Since it was founded, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Germany has made an important contribution to raising the visibility and acceptance of Chinese companies in our country. We are delighted by the opening of such an office in Hamburg. With over 550 Chinese companies, our Hanse city is China’s gateway to Europe. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce will help intensify Hamburg’s economic ties to China.”

Hamburg Liaison Office in China

Hamburg has traditionally had close ties to China and the city is hailed as “Han Bao” or “Bastion of Chinese”. More than 550 Chinese firms have branches in Hamburg making the city a gateway to the European market and conversely for the over 700 Hamburg-based firms operating in China. The Hamburg Liaison Office has represented the Chamber of Commerce Hamburg, the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Hamburg Business Development Corporation (HWF), Hamburg Hafen Marketing e.V. and Hamburg Tourismus GmbH in China since 1986. Hamburg has close economic ties with Shanghai and firms there such as Chinatex Europe, Baosteel Trading Europe use Hamburg as an international service platform and for exporting goods across Europe. Duan Wei, Managing Director of CHKD, said: “The encouragement that we have received from German political and economic representatives has given us lots of momentum for our plan to contribute even more towards German-Chinese economic co-operation.”

Chinese Chamber of Commerce – Berlin

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce Germany (Chinesische Handelskammer in Deutschland e.V.) was established in Berlin in 2014. It aims to further intensify bilateral relations between China and Germany by promoting trade and investment, providing information and services to Chinese companies and acting as their communication platform with the German government, media and society. Meanwhile, over 2,500 firms are located in Germany.
