Chamber of Commerce honours Hamburg's best apprentices

Awards for 61 outstanding apprentices

André Mücke, Vice President of the “Chamber of Commerce”:https://www.hamburg-news.hamburg/en/renewable-energy/bakery-hamburg-becomes-luftguetepartner-2019/ and Ties Rabe, Senator for Education and Training, have honoured 61 outstanding graduates on Wednesday (November 13, 2019). The winners among 8,200 graduates in more than 250 professions had scored at least 91.5 out of 100 points in their final examination and achieved top marks.

Flagship for vocational training

Mücke termed their achievements models for dual vocational training. “We have excellent vocational training in Germany, but we need even more high performers like you,” he added. Ten Hamburg-based, qualified apprentices are to receive the nationwide award on December 9, 2019. Then, Anja Karliczek, Minister of Education and Research and the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) will honour Germany’s best apprentices.

Making training more attractive

The Chamber of Commerce is keen to draw attention to apprenticeships and to make them even more attractive to school leavers. To this end, it introduced the so-called AzubiCard in September. Under the scheme, apprentices receive discounts from partner companies. Rabe said: “We are investing heavily in vocational training to ensure that vocational training remains so attractive. Almost all 31 state vocational schools have been renovated or completely rebuilt and we ensure that young people are prepared for their path into the world of work at school.”
