Beiersdorf is launching the Nivea innovation programme for the next generation of beauty start-ups in Seoul, a press release said Monday (December 3, 2018). South Korean start-ups will gain access to Beiersdorf’s global markets and leading expertise in the skin care segment. The selection process for the first start-up batch is due to begin in the first quarter of 2019.
Access the world market
Commenting on the accelerator, Ralph Gusko, Member of the Executive Board at Beiersdorf for Brands, Research & Development and the Asia Pacific region, said: “Many companies set up so-called accelerators in their home countries. We want to be where the future of skin care begins. As a pioneer in beauty and digital technologies, Korea offers great potential.” Beiersdorf is putting together a team to co-operate with and support start-ups in future. It will also act as an interface for executives in marketing, sales, digitalisation, supply chain and the research & development divisions. Endrik Hasemann, Managing Director of Beiersdorf Korea, added: “At Beiersdorf, we believe in partnerships. Our global success is based on close co-operation with partners in the skin care market. Now we want to support South Korean entrepreneurs in developing their ideas and giving them access to the world market.”
Partnership with WeWork
Beiersdorf and WeWork, a provider of co-working spaces, are entering a strategic partnership in South Korea. The accelerator programme will be set up at WeWork’s co-working site in Hongdae, Seoul, which is considered the epicenter of the South Korean beauty and fashion scene.
