TUI Cruises to launch "Mein Schiff 6" in Hamburg

2017 likely to be record year for cruise sector in Hamburg - 800,000 passengers expected

TUI Cruises will launch “Mein Schiff 6” on June 1, 2017 in Hamburg. The ship’s maiden voyage will end on Kiel on June 3, 2017, TUI Cruises GmbH announced Wednesday (December 14). More details of the ceremony will be announced later. Hamburg is heading for record numbers in 2016 with 171 arriving ships and 710,000 passengers and prospects for 2017 are excellent. Cruise Gate Hamburg GmbH is expecting an increase of 12 per cent with around 200 ship arrivals and 800,000 passengers.

“Mein Schiff 6” to set sail for New York

Next year’s highlights include big events like the port anniversary celebrations and the Hamburg Cruise Days as well as the launch of huge liners like Norwegian Jade, “Mein Schiff 6”, Independence of the Seas, MSC Preziosa and Silver Wind.

After its maiden voyage, “Mein Schiff 6” will sail the Baltic Sea, the Baltic states and the Norwegian county of Nordland until mid August 2017, according to the statement. “Mein Schiff 6” will then set sail from Hamburg to New York and cross the United States from September. From Bayonne, New York, “Mein Schiff 6” will sail two different routes lasting ten days and eleven days each. From mid November, it will tour Central America.

Holidaying on the high seas

“Mein Schiff 6” is about 300 metres in length and 36 metres in width. It has 1,267 cabins on 15 decks and can accommodate 2,534 guests. TUI Cruises is a joint venture involving TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. The Hamburg-based company has been offering cruises on the high seas for the German-language market since May 2009.
