Following a three day inspection tour of potential venues in Northern Germany, Kiel has been nominated as host of the sailing competitions for the Olympic Summer Games and Paralympic Games 2024, a fact announced at today’s press conference in Hamburg’s city hall.
Kiel was chosen by a nine-head delegation consisting of members of the Olympischen Sportbund (DOSB) and the German sailing federation DSV Deutscher Segler-Verband (DSV) and representative of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Fierce competitors of Kiel included Rockstock/Warnemünde and Lübeck/Travemünde. The result of the three day inspection tour was revealed by DOSB president Alfons Hörmann, the Hamburg Minister of Sports, Sport Michael Neumann, DSV president Dr. Andreas Lochbrunner and Bernhard Schwank, head of the delegation and Chairman of DOSB.
