Hamburg's Water Sports Clubs With Shows At Hamburg's Port Anniversary

From 8 to 10 May 2015, Hamburg's water sports clubs will entertain visitors with exciting shows on the Elbe river

There are many opportunities to play sports on the water. At the 826th Port Anniversary celebrated 8-10 May 2015 in the Port of Hamburg, some exciting pleasure boats and sports will be presenting, including races with ocean yachs and catamarans, water skiing, and dragon boat races.

Dragon Boats At The HafenCity

The traditional dragon boat race has chosen Hamburg’s new waterfront precinct HafenCity with its Grasbrook harbour as venue of the 26th Port Cup. Germany’s oldest dragon boat race will be accompanied by colourful bustle and culinary specialties at the Marco Polo Terraces. Under the patronage of Frank Horch, Hamburg Minister of the Economy, Transport, and Innovation, and Director General Jian-song Chu Head of the Taipei Representative Office in Hamburg, institutions from Hamburg will be competing on Friday, 8 May 2015, at 6.30 p.m. The duel of dragon boat clubs will follow on Saturday, 9 May 2015, at 11.30 a.m., while fun team will battle on Sunday, 10 May 2015, from 10 a.m. to -5 p.m.

Programme at Hamburg’s Landing Bridges

The Hamburg Motorboat Association, the Hamburg Sailing Association, and die local rubber dinghy club will be showcasing private yachts and motor yachts at Hamburg’s city marina at Baumwall, from where they will start for their parades. On Saturday, 7.20 p.m., and Sunday, 9.30 a.m., a taste of the Extreme Sailing Series will be given at the city marina, promoting the race to be held in Hamburg 23-26 July 2015 for the very first time. A professional crew will present a twelve metre catamaran, reaching speeds of up to 30 knots (55 km/h).

Ocean-Going Yachts Competing In Races

On Saturday, three races are on the agenda, with two ocean yachts competing at Blankenese, Köhlbrand and in the decisive race at Landungsbrücken at 7 p.m. Among the participants will be the racing yacht Illbruck, which has won the Volvo Ocean Race in 2002 and set up a new speed record of 39 knots (72 km/h). On all three days, the Hamburg Water Ski Club Hamburg will also be entertaining visitors

On Hamburg's Port Anniversary

Annually celebrated in early May, the world’s largest maritime festival attracts millions of visitors from home and abroad. For three days, they will be entertained on land and water by ships from all over the world, shows, stunts, music, and fireworks. Events and attractions can be found all over the Port of Hamburg, reaching from HafenCity with its floating museum and Kehrwiederspitze to Hamburg’s historic fish auction halls, and the museum port at Oevelgönne.
