Even if the snow is still missing: In the Hamburg Metropolitan Region, the Christmas season has officially begun. In Hamburg alone, 14 Christmas markets are waiting to be explore, all serving also as a popular place to meet and enjoy a mug of mulled wine after work with colleagues or friends. In addition to the decorated and artfully illuminated shopping streets and bright Christmas markets, Hamburg’s city centre offers something truly unique and maritime to children during the holiday season: five faire-tale ships moored at Jungfernstieg.
Five Fairy Tales Come Alive
For the past 26 years, they have been delighting the little ones on the quays of the Inner Alster Lake. Each of the five ships offers another free programme. On two ships, the bakery “Dat Backhus” invites young children aged three and older to daily try their hands at baking Christmas biscuits and taking them home. Another Hamburg tradition is the café ship at Hamburg’s Winterzauber. This is where the parents can enjoy coffee and cakes or other treats while the kids are actively baking for Christmas. Playful and colorful, the dream ship and the theatre ship offers daily another hands-on programme in the realms of fantasy and fun.
