Hamburg Metropolitan Region boosts international tourism

"LOGBUCH INTERNATIONAL online“ highlights international guests and their needs

A new, leading project called “Welcome to Metropolregion Hamburg“ launched Friday boosting regional tourism with an online platform. SMEs can now find background information, practical tools and valuable tips about various countries and cultures on the free “LOGBUCH INTERNATIONAL online”. This comes amid the rising popularity of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region among both German and foreign tourists who account for robust growth in north German tourism. All these tourists have varying needs. Jakob Richter, Head of the Office of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region said: “Around 4.7 million foreign guests stay overnight every year in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Market analyses for the coming years have forecast rising numbers of international guests in Germany. That holds great opportunity and we have to consider how to prepare the Hamburg Metropolitan Region well for international guests. This is exactly where the 'Welcome to Metropolregion Hamburg’ links up with its free 'LOGBUCH INTERNATIONAL online.’”

Focus on Hamburg Metropolitan Region’s key markets

Designed for all tourism-related branches, the “LOGBUCH INTERNATIONAL online” has information about accommodation, hotels and restaurants, retailers, leisure and cultural institutions as well as transport companies. Verena von der Hagen, Project Manager, said: “Whoever logs onto the platform can avail of sector-related information mainly about Denmark, Sweden the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria, which are key markets for the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Answers to queries about payment methods e.g. whether international guests prefer to pay in cash or per credit card are offered. Or should foreign guests be welcomed with a handshake or a peck on the cheek? How do guests obtain information prior to their trip? What specific habits and expectations do they have on arrival? All these questions are answered on the platform which provides lots of information about the various countries.

Simplified communication with integrated phrase book

An integrated tourism phrase book by Jourist Publishing should ease communication. The guide contains over 800 everyday phrases and vocabulary in English, Danish, Dutch and Swedish. Translating menus will also be simpler. The LOGBUCH INTERNATIONAL online will be updated regularly and already provides online information about Denmark. Information about the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Sweden will follow soon.

Around 20 tourist organisations across towns, districts and cities, seven Chambers of Industry and Commerce as well as tourist institutions in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region are taking part in the project. Around EUR 850,000 from funds to promote the Hamburg Metropolitan Region and from the partners’ contributions have been made available for the project. It is being managed by Lübeck und Travemünde Marketing GmbH.
