The Welcome Center opened its doors Monday (September 18, 2017) in Hamburg Airport’s baggage hall. Arriving passengers are now greeted with many different tourist offers such as hotel reservations, tickets for public transport and even tickets for the theatre and musicals. The measure is part of collaboration between Hamburg Airport and Hamburg Tourismus.
Hamburg’s rising popularity
Hotels and accommodations in Hamburg had 3.22 million arriving guests in the first half of 2017 – an increase of 4.9 per cent over the same period in 2016. More guests are flying to the city and Hamburg Airport had 8.2 million passengers between January and June 2017 – an increase of 9.9 per cent over the same period in 2016 and after a record 16.22 million passengers throughout last year.
“The tourist industry in Hamburg continues to develop well and many arriving guests start their journey in Hamburg Airport. That’s why we have invested in more quality services. The new, bigger and modern Hamburg Welcome Center gives arriving guests tips and information about their stay in the Hanse city and the entire north as soon as they arrive – and from now on not only in the public area, but in the baggage hall as well,” said Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport.
Welcoming culture in terminal
Guests can deposit keys and documents; send faxes or copy documents in the public part of the Welcome Center. Staff will offer tourist information at nine desks in the public area and in baggage halls. Wheelchair users can also avail of the service while hearing-impaired customers can use an audio induction loop system. A communication system for the blind will be made available later.
