The Hamburg Ministry of Culture will be supporting 13 projects at privately-owned theatres with 224,000 euro in the season 2015/2016. “Hamburg’s theatre scene is characterised by variety and quality. In comparison to other cities, Hamburg holds a top position”, says Prof. Barbara Kissler, Hamburg Minister of Culture. “In addition to the state theatres, the independent scene boasts attractive and committed private theatre in all areas of performing arts that offer a very versatile programme.”
The expert jury consisted comprised culture journalist Frauke Stroh, playwright Michael Propfe, and Patrick Giese from the Hamburger Volksbühne. Funds were granted, inter alia, to the productions “Lady with Notes” at the Hamburg Chamber Opera (29,000 euro), “The Satanic Verses / Council of Love” at the Hamburger Sprechwerk (29,000 euro) and to Everyday & Ecstasy” at the Monsoon Theatre (27,000 euro).
Next to project support, Hamburg’s private theatre also receive institutional support of around 7.9 million euro each season.
