Hamburg has been transformed into the Christmas capital of the north from November 26, 2018. Several festive Christmas markets dot the city and attract several million visitors every year. The historical Christmas market outside the town hall with organic mulled wine and Santa Claus is just one of many attractions. Other nearby markets include the Weiße Zauber on Jungfernstieg, the Christmas market at Gänsemarkt, the “Traditions im Winterwald” on Gerhard-Hauptmann-Platz, the Spitalerstraße shopping mile and the Fleetinsel Christmas market. If you are looking for a “wild” Christmas, Santa Pauli or the gay and lesbian Christmas market Winter Pride is the place to be.
Christmas shopping and parade
Boulevards like Jungfernstieg with large flagship stores such as Alsterhaus or the famous Mönckebergstraße with department stores and fashion stores, local retailers, cafés and snack bars combine international flair with a north German atmosphere. Shoppers can find gifts galore there. The “Hamburg Christmas Parade” on every Saturday in Advent from Mönckebergstraße to Jungfernstieg is one of many additional highlights.
Star Cuisine and Craft Beer
Several breweries across Hamburg brew their own craft beer e.g the Überquell at the Fischmarkt or the inn Altes Mädchen in Schanzenviertel. The cult brand Astra recently opened a brewery on the Reeperbahn across 760 square meters with handmade craft beers such as lager, black or bock beer or Indian Pale on tap as well as Pils Urtyp. Food fans can choose from eleven Michelin restaurants in Hamburg.
