Visitors and industry representatives from 90 countries are expected at the upcoming South by Southwest (SXSW) festival underway in Austin, Texas from March 9-18, 2018 and the German Haus is set to become a hotspot of the native tech, creative and music scene. From March 10-15, it will become the six-day venue of panels, keynotes and pitches. The German Haus is part of the German government’s culture and creative industries initiative and that of the states of Hamburg, Berlin, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Hesse, Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate as well as the cities of Hanover and Munich. The “Hamburg x Berlin Music & Interactive Night” is likely to be one of many highlights with eight bands from both cities.
Six days of different interactive focuses
More than 670 delegates from Germany have been accredited already and the German Haus is considered the biggest presentation of German culture and creative sector abroad. The German interactive and music scene will take centre stage in the nearby Barracuda. On four days there, the focus will turn to the interactive programme with new technologies like virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D sound, artificial intelligence and block chain. The events will also give delegates a look behind the scenes and indicate the social impact and on different industries e.g. smart cities or culture tech. Over 100 national and international actors including 30 start-ups will be presented on two stages in German Haus and at the national stand.
SXSW – exciting for innovative companies
Hamburg has attended SXSW since the launch of the joint German programme. German states help start-ups in their regions to attend SXSW. The founders of the Hamburg-based Nordantech, Qualitize, Inspirient and Sceenic are heading to Austin backed by the city of Hamburg and the Hamburg Startups initiative. Veronika Reichboth, Manager of the Startup-Unit Hamburg, Hamburg Invest, will be in Texas, and noted: “SXSW Interactive is an exciting platform for meeting innovative companies from Hamburg and gives everyone an opportunity to expand their networks. We are looking forward to meeting international start-ups again in SXSW. The London-based Sceenic will be part of Hamburg’s delegation in the ‘SXSW Startup Village’ after the team completed an intense, six-month programme at the Next Media Accelerator (NMA) in Hamburg last year. Austin is a great launching pad for start-ups like Sonormed that won the Digital Health & Life Sciences Technologies category at the SXSW Accelerator Pitch with its Tinnitracks app. The company has gone from success to success ever since.
More networking events from Hamburg
Harald Neidhardt, Hamburg’s expert on Smart Cities, fischerAppelt, Sanja Stankovic of Hamburg Startups and the Hanseatic start-ups Appinio, Nordantech and Qualitize will take part in several panels. And there is also the Reeperbahn Hamburgers which will go interactive this year and focus on women in technology. HamburgTexConnect will host a speed-meeting i.e. matchmaking between 40 Hamburg delegates and international guests.
