TÜV NORD certifies onshore equipment for Chinese manufacturers

TÜV NORD is extending its reach in the Chinese wind power market with new contracts. Service range on display at the WindEnergy trade fair in Hamburg

Chinese company United Power has commissioned TÜV NORD to conduct the type certification for a new wind turbine. The 3-megawatt turbine, with a rotor diameter of 146 metres is particularly suited to low-wind locations. TÜV NORD has also been given the go-ahead to certify the freshly developed 3.8 MW turbine from Dongfang Electric Cooperation (DEC). United Power and DEC are two of the largest Chinese manufacturers in the wind power market.

Market presence in China boosted

“We have significantly expanded our expertise in China. Our customers are benefiting from having personal contacts in Shanghai and Beijing. Comprehensive type certifications in accordance with IEC guidelines are being processed in collaboration with our accredited experts in Germany and China,” says Silvio Konrad, who is in charge of TÜV NORD’s power unit as a member of the Industrial Service executive. The certification process assesses the entire wind turbine, along with all its components.

WindEnergy: new certification and expert reports

TÜV NORD aims to present a broad-based, international spectrum of services, inspections and site reports at the WindEnergy trade fair in Hamburg, which runs from 25 to 28 September. There is particular interest in the new certification service for extended operating life for wind power turbines and the attention given to extreme weather conditions. The theme of continued operation of wind power turbines is also in focus: In this TÜV NORD as a full-service provider is supporting the sector with analytic and practical tests.
