The Stadtreinigung Hamburg has launched a new app after a three-month test phase. Users can consult the zero-waste map to find nearby climate-friendly spots that do without avoidable packaging. Retailers and individual users can add low waste suggestions to the map as well.
Finding zero-waste hotspots
“Apart from our shopping guide for packaging, we are now offering people in our city a versatile guide with the zero-waste map for sustainable, everyday waste avoidance,” said Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Siechau, Managing Director of SRH. The zero-waste hotspots include cafés, shops, vintage stores, second-hand department stores like Stilbruch, repair cafés or recycling centres. The Stadtreinigung’s app is free of charge and without advertising.
Reusable instead of disposable
Recup recently reported on the success of its standard to go cup, “which has led to a decrease of 1 million disposable cups over 2016,” said Michael Pollmann, State Councillor with the Ministry of Environment and Energy in Hamburg. “I am pleased that Stadtreinigung is again proving a pioneer and making this offer available to citizens.”
