Hamburg-based LichtBlick to integrate Tesla Battery Storage into Energy Markets

Tesla-CEO Elon The energy and the Hamburg-based IT company LichtBlick and electric vehicle and battery manufacturer Tesla have entered into a global energy collaboration to intelligently integrate Tesla’s new Powerwall Home Batteries into the energy market. Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the innovative storage device in Los Angeles on 1 May 2015. The Tesla Powerwall is particularly attractive for households, businesses and SMEs that want to optimise the use of their own solar power.

After Germany, Expansion to the Rest of the World

LichtBlick and Tesla will initially start their collaboration in Germany and the companies plan to expand their relationship to the EU, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. LichtBlick believes that the number of households and companies which generate and store electricity is set to increase sharply over the coming years.

“The new Tesla Powerwall represents a milestone, since powerful, affordable batteries are a key technology in the distributed energy revolution”, said LichtBlick founder and CEO Heiko von Tschischwitz. “LichtBlick connects decentralised batteries to a powerful storage system. The optimised use of millions of installed batteries, outside of buildings as well, plays a key part in ensuring that decentralized energy shapes our energy supply system.”
Using its unique SchwarmDirigent IT platform, the company links decentralised producers and storage systems and connects them to the energy markets.

Digital Power Plant

LichtBlick has been already operating a digital power plant in Germany with over a thousand decentralized units. Once linked to the cluster, Tesla Powerwall will be able to draw excess wind and solar power from the electricity network and then, during calm or cloudy periods, use this electricity in buildings or feed it back into the network. Consumers who integrate their batteries into the cluster will benefit from energy market revenues through LichtBlick.
