The university from Lüneburg in the Hamburg metro region is the latest member of the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN)

The International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) provides a global forum to support leading colleges, universities, and corporate campuses in the exchange of information, ideas, and best practices for achieving sustainable campus operations and integrating sustainability in research and teaching. Like Leuphana, its more than 70 members, including leading universities such as Harvard, Princeton and Yale, strive to network worldwide with partner universities to push sustainability ahead and to increase the international awareness of their research focus sustainability.

Leuphana President Professor Dr. Sascha Spoun: “Membership in ISCN is an important step to accelerate our international and interdisciplinary networking in the field of sustainability, which is extremely important in our view for a solution-oriented research.”

A Leading University in the Field of Sustainability

The Leuphana University is one of the world’s most prominent universities in sustainability research and application. It is Germany’s only university with a faculty of sustainability and a UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development. Furthermore, Leuphana as been awarded the “International Sustainable Campus Excellence Award” by ISCN for its sustainable development strategy five years ago. In July, Leuphana was once again recognised for its “Going Green” sustainability project in the national competition “Land of Ideas”. Last but not least, the university attracted international attention when setting up a Center for Global Sustainability and Cultural Transformation (CGSC) in co-operation with the Arizona State University.

Exchange and Best Practices

The ISCN brings together universities and other academic institutions in order to advance the exchange of ideas, experiences and best practice on sustainability in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and university administration. In 2009, ISCN was a partner of the Global University Leaders Forum (GULF), an initiative of the World Economic Forum.

“We warmly welcome the University of Lüneburg as member of the ISCN. We are looking forward to share experiences and work together for sustainability on college campuses, “said Bernd Kasemir, ISCN Programme Manager.him
