Vienna and Hamburg seeking closer trade links

Hamburg becoming key transhipment centre for Austrian economy - accounts for over one third

The live “Hamburg on Tour” event is stopping over in Vienna on Wednesday (March 27, 2019) under the theme “Hamburg on its way to the future”. The showcase presented by Hamburg Marketing GmbH, Hamburg Invest, the Hamburg Convention Bureau, Hamburg Tourism and partners invites businesses to network in Vienna’s vibrant MuseumQuartier.

Hamburg in Vienna – gateway to world of innovations

The tour is being held against the backdrop of traditionally good relations between the port cities of Hamburg and Vienna. For over 30 years, Hamburg has been the most important transhipment centre for the Austrian economy. Hamburg has a market share of over one third with 260,000 TEU (2018) in Austria. The close trade links between the two logistics hubs are based mainly on some 250 dense rail connections.

Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, Chairman of the Management Board of Hamburg Marketing GmbH and Managing Director of Hamburg Invest, noted: “Hamburg is making the city of tomorrow a tangible experience. Hamburg is making a name for itself as an attractive metropolis of the future with sustainable concepts, smart mobility and a high standard of living. We are showing that innovative, sustainable solutions for local and global challenges are emerging in Hamburg under the motto Future Hamburg. In the wake of the ITS World Congress 2021, Hamburg is set to become Germany’s model of urban and regional mobility and logistics solutions over the next years. New perspectives will open up for businesses tourism and congresses.

Level airline launches new route to Vienna

Spain’s Level airline, which is part of the International Airlines Group (IAG), will fly to Vienna six times a week (Mondays to Fridays and Sundays) from March 31, 2019. The new route will significantly increase capacity for business and city trips to Vienna for passengers from Hamburg. A 180-seat A320 aircraft will be operated on the connection.
